26-year-old man fatally shot near his home in Brooklyn.

A tragic shooting incident occurred in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, claiming the life of a 26-year-old man. The victim, identified as Elquan Tillman, was shot multiple times in the torso approximately at 10:55 p.m. on Saturday evening. The incident took place on Stockton Street, near Tompkins Avenue, just a short distance from Tillman’s residence, according to police reports.

Emergency medical personnel swiftly transported Tillman to Kings County Hospital; however, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.

This incident marks the second homicide recorded in Brooklyn’s 79th Precinct for the year. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, a separate violent crime took place when 22-year-old Jackson King was accused of fatally stabbing his 85-year-old grandmother, Julia Boomer, in her Throop Avenue home. Such incidents contribute to rising concerns regarding safety and crime in the area, prompting local residents to seek more proactive measures.

The 79th Precinct, which encompasses Bedford-Stuyvesant, experienced a total of eight homicides throughout the previous year, 2025, according to statistics released by the New York Police Department (NYPD). These figures illustrate a concerning trend, as the area grapples with issues related to violent crime amidst broader discussions about community safety and police accountability.

Community leaders and residents are increasingly expressing their concerns about the growing incidence of gun violence and the impact it has on their neighborhood. The police have urged anyone with information about Tillman’s murder to come forward as they work diligently to resolve the case and enhance security efforts within the precinct.

As the investigation unfolds, the community is left to mourn the loss of a young life and confront the harsh realities of violence that have increasingly permeated urban environments. The involvement of local law enforcement remains crucial in addressing these incidents and restoring a sense of safety for residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant and surrounding areas.
