Uncle charged with throwing baby down Staten Island garbage chute undergoing psychological evaluation.

In a disturbing incident in Staten Island, a 39-year-old man has been accused of throwing his one-year-old niece down a garbage chute within a residential apartment complex. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:10 p.m. within the seven-story building located at the intersection of Steuben Street and Weser Avenue in the Park Hill neighborhood. Following the incident, the uncle underwent a psychological evaluation, as confirmed by police sources.

According to law enforcement officials, the child tumbled three floors down the chute, landing near the basement incinerator. Fortunately, the incinerator was not operational at the time, leading to what could have been a much more tragic outcome. Police reported that the uncle returned to his apartment after allegedly disposing of the child. When confronted by the baby’s father, who was frantically searching for his daughter, the uncle admitted to throwing her down the chute, according to sources.

In a race against time, the infant’s parents rushed downstairs, where they heard their daughter crying. They were able to pry open the chute door to retrieve the child. Remarkably, despite the fall, the baby sustained only minor abrasions to her torso and was subsequently transported to Staten Island University Hospital North, where she was reported to be in stable condition.

Eyewitness accounts from neighbors reflect the horror and disbelief surrounding the incident. One resident expressed sadness over the act, stating that no individual in a sound state of mind would commit such an act against an innocent child. Another neighbor conveyed feelings of hurt and concern for the family involved, emphasizing the need for support and healing in the aftermath of the ordeal.

This incident reportedly followed a domestic dispute within the family, which appears to have led to the uncle’s actions. As of now, no charges have been filed against the uncle, and police investigations are ongoing.

The shocking nature of this incident underscores broader issues of mental health and family dynamics, drawing attention to the potential crises that can unfold behind closed doors. The local community continues to grapple with the gravity of what transpired and the implications for the family involved.
