Suspect Arrested for Murder Following Shooting at Brooklyn Block Party Captured on Video
A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting of a man who was enjoying a block party in Brooklyn, which has drawn significant public attention following the release of disturbing video footage. The incident, which is part of a disturbing pattern of violence that occurred over a six-hour period in New York City this past weekend, resulted in multiple injuries and raised concerns about safety in urban settings.
Tony Caba, 39, has been charged with the murder of 45-year-old Roberto Cuevas, who was shot while sitting in a plastic chair at a neighborhood gathering on the evening of August 10, 2025. The celebration was organized to honor a local resident’s 78th birthday near Fourth Avenue and 57th Street in Sunset Park. Eyewitness accounts describe a shocking scene as the assailant approached Cuevas without warning, drew a firearm, and discharged five rounds at close range around 9:10 PM.
Following the shooting, Cuevas was quickly transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries, having sustained a gunshot wound to his back. Caba, who resides in Kissimmee, Florida, is expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Monday, facing charges of murder and gun possession.
In addition to the tragic incident in Sunset Park, violence continued to plague the city that night. Around five hours after Cuevas’s death, another shooting was reported in Cypress Hills, where 23-year-old Wilky Toribio Perez was shot in the left shoulder near Pine Street and Etna Street at approximately 2:25 AM on Sunday. He was subsequently transported to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Throughout the night, four additional shootings were reported across Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, resulting in injuries to eight other individuals. The series of violent events has raised alarms among residents and city officials, highlighting ongoing concerns about gun violence and public safety in the metropolis.
