The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, involved a Brinks truck parked outside the H Mart grocery store on Cheltenham Avenue, according to local police.

Authorities report that the robbery was executed by two men, one wielding an AK-style rifle while the other was armed with a handgun. They approached the driver of the armored vehicle and demanded cash. Despite the alarming nature of the event, the driver sustained no injuries. Following the theft, the suspects fled the scene in a dark Acura sedan.

This robbery is consistent with a troubling trend of similar incidents targeting armored trucks in Northeast Philadelphia over recent weeks. Investigators believe that these robberies may be linked, raising concerns about the safety of cash transport operations within the city. Police have reported at least four other truck heists in the area, which share similar characteristics.

In a related incident on July 14, a Brinks driver managed to thwart a potential robbery by discharging his weapon at two armed men who approached him on Castor Avenue. Additionally, just two weeks earlier, another Brinks truck was targeted at a nearby shopping center on Frankford Avenue by three assailants, one of whom was armed with an AR-style rifle. These criminals managed to steal the driver’s firearm along with an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing in a 2022 silver Honda Accord.

Prior to these incidents, a Loomis truck driver was also attacked while making a delivery outside an Aldi store on Whitaker Avenue. In that case, the perpetrators, who were in a Nissan, stole approximately ,000 along with the driver’s firearm. Another robbery occurred on June 26, where armed assailants took similar items from a Loomis driver during a delivery at an Aldi store.

The rise in armored truck robberies in the Philadelphia area has prompted the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist local police in investigating the cases. The growing frequency of such violent crimes has heightened concerns about security in the region, as authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to apprehend those responsible.
