Three teenagers arrested for the murder of a man in South Jersey.
Three teenagers were arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of a New Jersey man that occurred on Friday night. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office announced the apprehension of the suspects, who are believed to be linked to the fatal shooting of Thomas Smith III, a 20-year-old resident of Millville.
On the evening of August 18, 2025, emergency responders arrived at the scene after reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they found Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators quickly identified the suspects as Jequise Forrest, Alonzo E. Mincey, and Jerramiah J. Michael, all of whom are 19 years old.
Following the identification of the suspects, law enforcement officials filed multiple charges on Sunday, including first-degree murder, first-degree murder conspiracy, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree assault conspiracy, and two weapons offenses. Additionally, Forrest faces an extra charge related to possession of a high-capacity magazine.
Less than 24 hours after being publicly named as suspects, the trio was apprehended at an apartment complex in Bridgeton, located just west of Millville. Authorities reported that the three individuals were found together in the same unit around noon, despite originating from different towns in South Jersey. Their swift capture indicates a concerted effort by law enforcement to address the gravity of the situation.
At this time, investigators have not disclosed any information regarding the motive behind the shooting or the nature of Smith’s relationship with the suspects.
