An Albany man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 93-year-old man, as reported by the Cohoes Police Department. Kemaury T. Everett, age 19, faces serious charges including second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
The tragic event unfolded on Monday morning at approximately 10 a.m., when police were alerted to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Congress and Newark streets. Upon arrival, officers located Charles Allendorph, the elderly victim, who was subsequently transported to Albany Medical Center. Unfortunately, Allendorph was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Initial reports indicated that the driver of the involved vehicle fled the scene following the collision. Investigators engaged with witnesses to gather information about the incident, leading them to identify the suspect vehicle. They promptly alerted neighboring law enforcement agencies, escalating the search efforts. Within an hour, the Albany Police Department located the vehicle, which was unoccupied and subsequently seized by Cohoes Police as a crucial piece of evidence.
Later in the day, at around 4 p.m., authorities apprehended Kemaury Everett in Albany while he was attempting to report the vehicle stolen. Following his arrest, Everett was arraigned in Cohoes City Court on Tuesday morning. In the proceedings, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was ordered to remain in custody without bail.
