Massachusetts authorities arrest suspect in attempted murder case from Brooklyn.
A man wanted in connection with an attempted murder case in Brooklyn earlier this year has been apprehended in Worcester, Massachusetts. Authorities announced this development on Tuesday.
Gregory Alphonso, age 33, was arrested on Monday in the Massachusetts city, located approximately 35 miles west of Boston, according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service. The warrant for Alphonso’s arrest was issued on May 23 by the Brooklyn Superior Court, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations against him.
While specific details regarding the charges have not been disclosed, at least two incidents in Brooklyn prior to the issuance of the warrant are considered relevant to the attempted murder case against Alphonso. The first incident occurred on May 22, when a 29-year-old man was shot by an unidentified gunman inside the Albany Houses on Bergen Street. Reports indicate that both the shooter and the victim have yet to be publicly identified.
The day before the Albany Houses shooting, a second violent episode took place in Flatlands, where a 37-year-old man was left wounded after being shot in the stomach on the street. Like the earlier incident, the victim remains unnamed, and the shooter in this case is also reported as at large.
In response to these incidents, the New York Police Department (NYPD) sought assistance from the U.S. Marshals’ New York/New Jersey task force to locate Alphonso. Subsequently, investigators determined that he was in Massachusetts and alerted the Marshals’ team there. The Massachusetts State Police collaborated on the operation, leading to Alphonso’s arrest.
Following his capture, Alphonso has been charged in Massachusetts as a fugitive from justice. He now faces the prospect of extradition back to New York to answer the attempted murder charges leveled against him.
This case highlights ongoing law enforcement efforts to track down individuals sought for violent crimes across state lines and underscores the collaborative measures between agencies like the U.S. Marshals and local police departments. As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these incidents, the community remains on alert as they seek to ensure public safety.
