Fifteen-year-old arrested for fatally shooting Bronx man outside his home.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Bronx father, Kelvin Mosquea, near his home in the Soundview neighborhood. The incident occurred on August 26, 2025, shortly after 1:00 p.m., outside the victim’s New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) apartment building.

According to authorities, Mosquea, a 28-year-old construction company supervisor, was engaged in an altercation with two individuals when he was shot in the torso near the intersection of Croes Avenue and Seward Avenue. Following the shooting, the assailants reportedly searched through his belongings before fleeing the scene. One shell casing and a bullet were discovered by investigators at the crime scene. Despite prompt medical attention, Mosquea was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center shortly after arrival.

The tragic event is part of a concerning surge in gun violence within the Bronx. Over a two-week period, eight individuals lost their lives to gunfire, prompting Mayor Eric Adams to respond by pledging to deploy an additional 1,000 police officers across the borough. This rise in violent crime has alarmed local residents and officials alike, as the community grapples with fear and insecurity.

Witnesses, including Mosquea’s brother-in-law, Steve Ventimilla, described the chaotic scene as occurring in broad daylight, emphasizing the shocking nature of the incident. Ventimilla noted that Mosquea was struck only once during the encounter. The victim is remembered by his family as a loving individual who took pride in being a devoted father to his six-year-old son.

Mosquea’s sister, Beyonce, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, recounting the attempts made by medical personnel to revive him were unsuccessful. Community members have voiced their grief, underscoring the impact of the loss on his family and neighbors. A GoFundMe page has been established to support Mosquea’s family during this difficult time.

Two days following the shooting, police apprehended the 15-year-old suspect and charged him with murder. Due to his age, his identity has not been disclosed. The incident raises alarm about the involvement of youth in violent crimes within the community, highlighting a need for targeted interventions to address the rise in gun violence.

This shooting is not an isolated event; it follows a particularly violent stretch in the Bronx that included a mass shooting in Haffen Park, wherein multiple individuals were injured. These incidents underscore the challenges local law enforcement faces as they seek to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Bronx residents amidst escalating violence.

As authorities work diligently to address the issue, it remains evident that the Bronx is in urgent need of strategies to combat gun violence and its devastating consequences on families and communities.
