Bustleton Post Office renamed in honor of Temple University police officer Christopher Fitzgerald, who was killed in the line of duty.

A significant tribute was paid on Sunday as the post office in Bustleton was officially renamed in honor of Sergeant Christopher David Fitzgerald, a Temple University police officer tragically killed in the line of duty in 2023. The renaming ceremony drew family members, friends, and colleagues who gathered to remember Fitzgerald’s dedication to public service and his enduring spirit.

Pauline Fitzgerald, Christopher’s mother, reflected on the memories of taking her son along during errands two decades ago and expressed a sense of pride and loss that her son could not be present for this momentous occasion. The post office will now bear his name, symbolizing not only the family’s love for Christopher but also the values for which he stood—service, community, and commitment to public safety.

Christopher Fitzgerald, who was just 31 years old at the time of his death, was fatally shot in February 2023 by Miles Pfeffer, an 18-year-old high school senior from Bucks County. Following the tragic incident, Pfeffer was sentenced to life in prison, leaving behind a grieving community and family. This renaming is intended to honor Fitzgerald’s legacy and inspire future generations in the Bustleton area and beyond.

Joel Fitzgerald, Christopher’s father and a retired Philadelphia police officer, delivered a heartfelt address during the ceremony, emphasizing the unity and compassion his son represented.
