Two men arrested for planting bomb under vehicle belonging to media outlet in Salt Lake City.

Two men have been apprehended and are alleged to be involved in an incident concerning an incendiary device planted under a media vehicle in Salt Lake City, according to an announcement from the FBI on Sunday. The suspects, identified as Adeeb Nasir, aged 58, and his 31-year-old associate Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, have been linked to the placement of the device under a vehicle belonging to local Fox affiliate KSTU, which has since confirmed the targeted vehicle.

Law enforcement officials discovered the device on Friday, determining that it had been ignited but did not operate as intended. Authorities reported that the vehicle was parked in proximity to an occupied building, raising significant concerns regarding public safety.

In response to the incident, a joint task force comprised of FBI agents and local police executed a search warrant on a residence in the suburb of Magna on Saturday. During this operation, the Nasirs were taken into custody, and investigators found additional explosives and components related to explosive devices at the location, according to reports from local news outlets.

The Nasirs allegedly claimed possession of two “weapons of mass destruction” during the raid, prompting nearby residents to be evacuated as a precaution. Subsequent investigations revealed that these claims were unfounded, and no injuries to law enforcement personnel occurred during the operation.

Following their arrest, the two men are facing numerous charges related to explosives and weapons offenses, alongside two counts each of making threats of terrorism. The specific nature of the relationship between the two suspects has not been disclosed by law enforcement officials at this time.

The Salt Lake City area has been under heightened scrutiny lately, particularly in light of the recent violent events, including the shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, which is situated just south of Salt Lake City. This recent incident underscores the ongoing concerns regarding public safety amidst a backdrop of rising tensions and incidents of violence that have captured national attention. As investigations continue, local authorities are focused on ensuring the safety of the community while addressing this troubling incident.
