Rockland County middle school student faces charges in large sextortion case.

A recent sextortion investigation involving Fieldstone Middle School in Rockland County has led to the arrest of a suspect on felony charges, raising significant concerns about the safety of children online. Authorities announced this development on Wednesday, indicating that the case could potentially encompass hundreds of victims.

The Stony Point Police Department commenced their investigation in February 2025 after receiving reports from multiple victims who indicated they were coerced into sharing explicit material through social media platforms. At this early stage, at least six children under the age of 16 have come forward, but investigators believe the number of victims could be much higher, with estimates suggesting that “several hundred” additional victims may still be unidentified.

The ongoing investigation uncovered that the victims were misled into believing they were communicating with a teenage girl when, in fact, they were being targeted by an unidentified suspect. This form of manipulation highlights the alarming tactics employed in sextortion cases. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed but is also thought to be under 16, is facing serious charges, including the use of a child in a sexual performance, promoting a sexual performance by a child, and possessing a sexual performance by a child.

Stony Point Police have emphasized the critical importance of addressing the risks children face in the increasingly digital landscape. They issued a statement acknowledging the courage displayed by the students who reported the incidents and encouraged parents to engage in open dialogues with their children about online safety.

Authorities pointed out that the issue of sextortion extends beyond local boundaries, characterizing it as a worldwide dilemma largely exacerbated by the reach of social media. They urged parents to remain vigilant and informed, as many may be unaware of the breadth of dangers that exist online. It is imperative for parents to foster safe and supportive environments where children feel comfortable discussing their concerns and seek help when needed.

Fieldstone Middle School, part of the North Rockland School District, serves around 1,300 students in the seventh and eighth grades from the communities of Stony Point and Haverstraw. As the investigation continues, the school district and law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.

This developing case serves as a stark reminder of the imperative for increased awareness and proactive discussions surrounding the digital activities of youth, emphasizing a collective responsibility to protect children from online predators and other hazards.

For updates on this ongoing investigation and further resources on internet safety, further information will be made available to the public as it develops.
