Man arrested after raping woman on Bronx street and providing his phone number.

A 33-year-old woman was the victim of a shocking street crime in the Bronx, where she was raped by a man with an extensive criminal history. The suspect, identified as Nicholas DeJesus, also known by the alias “Romeo,” was apprehended shortly after the incident, which took place around 5:45 a.m. near the Kingsbridge Stop & Shop on Broadway, close to West 234th Street.

According to police reports, DeJesus approached the victim from behind, demanded her compliance, and threatened her if she resisted. Following his assault, he reportedly attempted to further engage the victim, but she managed to escape by running into a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts. Employees at the establishment promptly called 911 to report the incident.

The victim sustained injuries, including cuts and abrasions on her lips, cheek, and back, and required medical attention at a local hospital. During her interaction with authorities, she described DeJesus as a stranger who introduced himself with the name “Romeo” and provided her with a personal item—clothes he had taken from her during the assault. This clothing, including a black Polo sweatshirt and a black tank top, is currently being processed for DNA evidence, essential for building a case against him.

Police were able to track DeJesus to his residence, located approximately five miles north of the crime scene, through the cell phone number he had given the victim, which was already linked to a quality-of-life summons issued to him on September 6. This connection proved instrumental in his capture.

Nicholas DeJesus has been charged with a range of offenses, including rape, sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. His criminal record reveals that he had previously served over 11 years in prison for robbery before being paroled on July 25.
