The unfortunate event that has taken the life of this young mother unfolded on March 28, when Cabrera sought assistance at the home of Felipe Hoyos-Foronda, who allegedly carried out unauthorized medical practices from his residence.

Cabrera sought medical attention to have troublesome butt implants removed. During the procedure, she reportedly went into cardiac arrest after receiving an injection of lidocaine, a local anesthetic typically used in various medical and cosmetic operations. Prosecutors have indicated that Cabrera suffered from lidocaine toxicity, a serious condition that can occur when the anesthetic enters the bloodstream in excessive amounts, potentially leading to epileptic seizures, abnormal heart rhythms, and in severe instances, respiratory failure or cardiac arrest.

Emergency responders from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) discovered a makeshift medical setting in Hoyos-Foronda’s home, which prompted them to call law enforcement for further investigation. Concurrently, Cabrera was rushed to Mount Sinai Queens hospital; however, she did not regain consciousness after extensive resuscitation efforts lasted approximately two and a half hours. Her family members, including her sister Linney, expressed shock and disbelief over the incident, highlighting that Cabrera had been recommended to the unlicensed provider by a friend.

Following her tragic fate, Cabrera left behind two young sons, ages three and one. Her sister remembered her as an entrepreneurial spirit who sold tamales and empanadas during the summer, with dreams of becoming a beautician. The family is now grieving the loss of their beloved member, who was known for her warmth and dedication to family gatherings, especially during the festive seasons.

Hoyos-Foronda was apprehended shortly after the incident and has been arraigned on charges including assault and the unauthorized practice of a profession.
