Bronx woman offered money to stop assault by homeless man, according to prosecutors.
A 36-year-old woman was the victim of a severe assault involving choking, rape, and robbery, allegedly perpetrated by a 21-year-old man in the Bronx. The incident took place early Sunday morning in an apartment building located near East Gun Hill Road and Putnam Place in Norwood. Court documents reveal that the victim pleaded desperately for the assailant, identified as Kenneth Siriboe, to cease his violent actions, even offering him money to stop the assault.
According to law enforcement accounts, Siriboe approached the woman around 5 a.m. He reportedly covered her mouth, began choking her, and subsequently threw her to the ground, directing a series of punches at her head and body before sexually assaulting her. Following the attack, Siriboe allegedly stole the woman’s Coach handbag, which contained her identification, keys, and approximately 0 in cash, before fleeing the scene on foot, heading east on Gun Hill Road.
The victim sustained significant injuries, including bruising, swelling, and cuts to various parts of her body. Emergency medical services transported her to North Central Bronx Hospital, where she was treated and reported to be in stable condition.
Law enforcement officials were able to apprehend Siriboe approximately seven hours after the attack. Authorities acted on a tip received from a community member who recognized him from surveillance images that had been distributed following the incident. Siriboe now faces multiple charges, including rape, robbery, strangulation, burglary, criminal obstruction of breathing, criminal trespass, assault, and sexual abuse.
During his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, Judge Juan Abreu set bail for Siriboe at ,000. It has been reported that Siriboe previously resided in New Jersey and identified himself as homeless at the time of his arrest. Notably, he does not have any prior arrests on record in New York City.
Siriboe’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 3. The case highlights ongoing concerns about safety and crime in urban environments, underscoring the ongoing need for community vigilance and support for victims of violent crimes. Experts in the field of criminal justice emphasize the importance of addressing violence against women and ensuring that justice is served promptly for victims.
