Police search landfill for missing 11-year-old autistic boy from Brooklyn.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) and the New York State Police are conducting an extensive search at the High Acres Landfill in Parinton, approximately 14 miles east of Rochester, as part of the investigation into the disappearance of an 11-year-old autistic boy from Brooklyn. This search marks a significant development in the case of Jacob Pritchett, who has reportedly been missing since mid-August. The situation escalated when Jacob’s mother informed authorities that she no longer had a child, raising immediate concerns for the boy’s welfare.

The case began to gain attention when the city’s Administration for Child Services (ACS) received a tip through a state hotline, prompting them to investigate Jacob’s whereabouts. On September 25, ACS representatives attempted to visit the family’s residence in Brownsville, but were unable to gain entry. Upon calling for police assistance, NYPD officers arrived and were allowed into the apartment, only to be met with the child’s mother denying her relationship to Jacob.

In a subsequent search, ACS agents, accompanied by police and K-9 units, returned to the apartment complex to explore both the building and its surroundings in pursuit of any leads. Following the search, Jacob’s mother was taken to the 73rd Precinct and later transported with medical personnel to Brookdale University Hospital for an evaluation.

The NYPD released a composite sketch of Jacob over the weekend, as no photographs of the boy were available at the time of the release. When inquired about the absence of a photo, a spokesperson for the department stated that the information shared was all that was currently available.

Neighbors have reported that they had not seen Jacob for six to eight weeks, and some expressed shock upon learning of his age, suggesting he appeared much younger. One neighbor recounted observations of the child playing in his window but noted he never came outside or attended school.

As the search continues, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to locate Jacob Pritchett and clarify the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. The investigation underscores the complexities often involved in cases concerning missing children, particularly those with disabilities. The NYPD, alongside ACS and State Police, is committed to pursuing all viable leads in the hope of bringing Jacob home safely.
