84-year-old man loses bank card to scammers at Queens ATM, resulting in ,800 in unauthorized charges.

Authorities are actively seeking three men involved in a sophisticated theft that targeted an 84-year-old man in Queens. The incident occurred on June 26 at approximately 10 a.m. at a Chase bank located near the intersection of Woodside Avenue and 60th Street in the Sunnyside Gardens area.

According to the New York Police Department, the elderly victim was approached by one of the suspects, who tapped him on the shoulder in an apparent distraction tactic. While the victim’s attention was diverted, an accomplice swiftly replaced the victim’s bank card at the ATM with a different card. Following this deceptive exchange, the two suspects exited the bank and handed the stolen card over to a third individual who was waiting outside the establishment.

Subsequently, the victim discovered unauthorized transactions that amounted to a staggering ,800 on his bank card. This incident underscores the vulnerability of elderly individuals and the cunning strategies employed by criminals to exploit their trust.

The trio has not yet been apprehended by law enforcement. Descriptions provided by police indicate that one of the suspects was dressed in a dark-colored, long-sleeve shirt and wore glasses. Another suspect was seen in a black long-sleeve shirt and a black hat, while the third individual sported a white long-sleeve shirt, blue shorts, white sneakers, and a white hat.

In light of this incident, authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crime or has information regarding the suspects to come forward. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

This unsettling case is part of a larger trend that raises concerns about the safety of senior citizens in urban areas. Law enforcement agencies are continuously working to enhance protective measures and increase public awareness. The rapid escalation of financial crimes targeting vulnerable populations necessitates a collective effort from the community, local businesses, and law enforcement to ensure a safer environment for all residents.

As investigations continue, the NYPD remains committed to apprehending those responsible for this crime, ensuring that justice is served and preventing further incidents of this nature.
