Man charged with slashing relative’s neck and holding another person at knifepoint in Long Island incident.

A Long Island man has been indicted on charges of attempted murder following a violent incident in Amityville last month, according to officials. Angelo Andrade, 49, is suspected of inflicting serious injuries on a relative within the confines of their home, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced.

The alleged attack took place on September 21 during what authorities characterized as a conversation between Andrade and the victim, a 45-year-old family member. Reports indicate that Andrade attacked the victim from behind, using a knife to deliver a significant slash across the neck, resulting in serious bleeding and laceration.

In a further escalation of the situation, Andrade reportedly threatened another family member, a female relative living in the same residence, by holding her at knifepoint. Both victims managed to flee the scene and sought assistance from law enforcement by escaping to call for help.

Police apprehended Andrade shortly after the incident. The male victim sustained grave injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip. Medical personnel noted that he had lost a substantial amount of blood during the assault and required a blood transfusion to stabilize his condition, although his injuries have been deemed serious but non-life-threatening.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney commented on the severity of the situation, noting that these alleged acts of violence could have had fatal consequences. He emphasized the commitment of his office to prosecute such cases vigorously, highlighting the importance of addressing violent behavior within the community.

Andrade was arraigned in Suffolk County Court on charges including attempted murder, assault, false imprisonment, and menacing. As of now, he is being held on a 0,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 13. If convicted of the most serious charge, Andrade faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

The case underscores ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence and the potential risks involved, prompting renewed discussions about the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals within familial situations. Authorities continue to stress the importance of intervention and support for victims of violence in the community.
