Two Pennsylvania men sentenced for stealing million from a Long Island home.

Two men from Pennsylvania have received nine-year prison sentences for their involvement in a brazen burglary in Long Island, where they disguised themselves as construction workers to execute the crime, authorities announced on Friday. Dejuan Michaels, 31, and Daiquan Smith, 30, pleaded guilty to burglary and grand larceny, resulting in their sentencing by the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident took place on September 23, 2023, when Michaels, Smith, and two accomplices arrived at a residence in Valley Stream shortly after the homeowner had left for work. Prosecutors revealed that the men, dressed in construction attire, gained entry into the home by breaking a back window. Approximately 90 minutes later, one of the suspects was seen leaving the premises through that same window, returning shortly thereafter with a hand truck.

Surveillance footage captured the four individuals exiting the house with two safes on the hand truck, which contained an estimated million in cash and valuables, including firearms and Rolex watches. Authorities noted that Michaels later used his cellphone to document the haul, taking pictures of himself and Smith in a Pennsylvania warehouse surrounded by the stolen goods, still wearing the same clothing as seen in surveillance footage taken near the victim’s property.

The accomplishments of law enforcement officials were emphasized by Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, who stated that the defendants underestimated the investigative capabilities of law enforcement.

Michaels and Smith were arrested by U.S. Marshals in April 2024, and they entered guilty pleas on September 22 of the same year. Their respective sentences concluded with both men receiving a nine-year term in prison for their crimes.

Another co-defendant, Tehron Green, 45, was apprehended by detectives from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania in March and has also pleaded guilty to the charges. Green is scheduled for sentencing on December 3, 2024. Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for the fourth suspect involved in the incident.

As law enforcement continues to address such criminal activity, this case serves as a reminder of the measures taken to ensure justice for victims of property crime. The successful prosecution of these individuals reflects a commitment to public safety and community integrity.
