Goldin was killed on August 1, 2014, shortly after a ceasefire took effect that ended a significant conflict between Israel and Hamas, known as Operation Protective Edge. With Goldin’s remains under examination, there are still four other deceased captives whose identities and remains have yet to be resolved within Gaza.
