Adele will make her film debut in Tom Ford’s first movie in ten years.

Adele, the acclaimed British singer-songwriter and 16-time Grammy Award winner, is set to make her film debut in Tom Ford’s upcoming adaptation of Anne Rice’s novel “Cry to Heaven.” This transition to the silver screen marks a significant shift for the 37-year-old artist, who has announced she will temporarily step away from music. The film is currently in pre-production and is expected to be released in the fall of 2026.

Tom Ford, known for his work as a fashion designer and filmmaker, will direct and has written the screenplay for “Cry to Heaven.” Set in the 18th century, the film delves into the life of a Venetian noble and a castrated Calabrian singer pursuing a career in opera. Alongside Adele, the cast features an impressive ensemble, including Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, Thandiwe Newton, and Paul Bettany, among others. Principal photography is scheduled to commence in January 2026 across locations in London and Rome.

Adele’s decision to embark on this cinematic venture comes after she expressed a desire for a substantial break from her music career. Following her widely acclaimed residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which concluded in November 2024, the artist stated she had no immediate plans to release new music. Her last studio album, “30,” released in November 2021, was a commercial success and further solidified her status as one of the leading figures in contemporary music.

Prior to this film project, Adele garnered significant recognition in the film industry, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Skyfall,” the title track for the James Bond film, in 2013. Additionally, she won an Emmy Award in 2022 for her “Adele: One Night Only” special, showcasing her versatility and appeal beyond music.

Tom Ford’s “Cry to Heaven” will be his first directorial effort since 2016’s critically acclaimed “Nocturnal Animals.” Ford initially made his mark in the film industry with “A Single Man” in 2009, which earned Colin Firth an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
