Brooklyn woman, aged 101, dies two weeks after being struck by an SUV.

A tragic incident in Brooklyn has resulted in the death of a 101-year-old woman, Taibel Brod, who was involved in a serious traffic accident on April 8. According to reports from local authorities, Brod was crossing the street at the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and Montgomery Street in Crown Heights when she was struck by an unlicensed driver.

The collision occurred around 8:25 p.m. as Brod made her way across Montgomery Street while under a pedestrian walk signal. A 65-year-old man, identified as Menachem Shagalow, was driving a 2023 GMC Yukon SUV south on Brooklyn Avenue. It was during his left turn onto Montgomery Street that the vehicle hit Brod, who was reportedly situated midway across the street.

Following the incident, Shagalow was apprehended by law enforcement officers on the same day and faced several charges, including being an aggravated unlicensed operator and failing to exercise due care while driving. Authorities are investigating his unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in connection with the case.

Emergency Medical Services transported Brod to Maimonides Medical Center, where she initially appeared to be in stable condition despite sustaining head injuries. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and she passed away nearly two weeks later, on April 20, from the injuries sustained during the collision.
