Florida A&M University announces four finalists for its presidential search.
Marva Johnson, a seasoned executive at Charter Communications and a former member of the State Board of Education, has emerged as one of four finalists in the search for the next president of Florida A&M University (FAMU). The announcement, made on Tuesday, marks a significant development in FAMU’s leadership transition efforts.
Johnson has served as the group vice president for Charter Communications since 2020 and boasts an impressive track record in educational governance. Her tenure on the State Board of Education spanned eight years, during which she notably chaired the board for four years. This experience, detailed in her resume available on the FAMU website, positions her as a candidate with substantial expertise in both corporate and educational leadership.
The other finalists competing for the presidency include Donald Palm, currently serving as FAMU’s executive vice president and chief operating officer; Rondall Allen, the provost and vice president of academic affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore; and Gerald Hector, who holds the position of senior vice president for administration and finance at the University of Central Florida. These candidates were selected by a dedicated search committee, reflecting a thorough vetting process aimed at identifying leaders who could steer the university towards its future goals.
The finalists are set to participate in on-campus interviews scheduled from May 12 to May 16. These interviews will provide insight into each candidate’s vision for the university and their strategies for fostering academic and administrative growth.
