According to statements made by her mother, Karizma Dabney, Divine has regressed emotionally following the traumatic incident that took place on October 22, 2025. Dabney noted that her daughter now exhibits childlike behavior typical of a younger child, despite being 12 years old. The girl requires cosmetic surgery to address disfigurements caused by the attack, and her family is facing difficulties securing Medicaid coverage for the necessary procedures, prompting Dabney to initiate a crowdfunding campaign to assist with medical expenses.

Reports indicate that Joshua Burnside, 29, engaged in a violent confrontation with both Divine and her mother in their apartment located on East 173rd Street. During this harrowing event, it is alleged that Burnside inflicted multiple injuries on Divine using various household items, including a spoon, a knife, and a crochet needle. He has been charged with attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder, and multiple counts of assault and weapon possession, but he has pleaded not guilty to these allegations.

Witnesses to the incident included Dabney’s other children, who, according to their mother, are exhibiting signs of distress as a result of the violence.
