In a startling development, actor Ernest Heinz, known for his roles in HBO’s critically acclaimed series “The Sopranos” and films such as “J. Edgar” and “The Prestige,” has been indicted on multiple charges stemming from a road rage incident in New Jersey. According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred near Stockton University, where Heinz allegedly shot a woman in the face during a heated altercation.
The charges against the 48-year-old actor are serious, totaling 31 counts, which include first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, and various weapons offenses, as reported by NJ Advance Media. Heinz was taken into custody on September 11, only hours after the event that left the victim, Maritza Arias-Galva, injured.
Arias-Galva reported that she was attempting to merge into a single lane on South Pomona Road, signaling her intention via her turn signal, when she was cut off by Heinz. As both vehicles approached a red light on Vera King Farris Drive, an exchange ensued, during which Heinz allegedly shouted obscenities at Arias-Galva. In a shocking turn of events, he reportedly reached his hand out of the window and fired a single shot, striking Arias-Galva in the upper nose. According to Captain Mark D’Esposito of the Galloway Township Police Department, Heinz allegedly exclaimed, “I’m going to kill you” during the altercation.
Upon arrival at the scene around 12:30 p.m., police found Arias-Galva suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound. The victim promptly contacted 911, providing details about her attacker, describing him as a white male with blond hair styled in a ponytail, who was driving a white Honda SUV. Law enforcement officials were able to locate Heinz subsequently, following the trail of the fleeing vehicle toward the Stockton University campus.
Heinz is set to appear for an arraignment in late January, where the details of the indictment will be formally presented. Beyond his acting career, which includes minor roles in various film and television projects, Heinz has also served as a face model for the “Resident Evil” video game series. In addition, he has worked as a real estate and mortgage broker, illustrating the breadth of his professional engagements outside of acting.
