Connecticut father killed in shooting during dispute over child’s birthday party, according to authorities.

The recent fatal shooting of a young father in Meriden, Connecticut, has drawn significant attention as investigations reveal that the incident allegedly arose from a dispute regarding a birthday party for his child.

According to reports from Media News Source, the victim, 22-year-old Deron Johnson, was shot following a confrontation related to the planning of a party for his two-year-old son. Johnson’s child’s mother, 21-year-old Dovone Still, reportedly contacted 911 on January 19, stating that Johnson had sustained a gunshot wound. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, located at the intersection of Cook Avenue and Summer Street, and found Johnson injured. He was subsequently transported to MidState Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Family members have described Johnson as a surgical technician at a local hospital, and they emphasized his role as a devoted father to his young son. The dispute that led to Johnson’s tragic demise appears to have escalated between him and Still’s boyfriend, 28-year-old Aren Scott. Reportedly, Johnson had concerns over Scott’s involvement in planning the birthday party, which had sparked tensions that intensified in the days leading up to the incident.

On the day of the shooting, an altercation occurred outside Johnson’s residence, culminating in Scott allegedly shooting Johnson in the torso. Following the shooting, Johnson attempted to flee but collapsed on a nearby bridge, succumbing to his injuries.

In the aftermath, an extensive investigation led to the arrest of Scott and Still in Milford on Saturday. Scott faces a charge of murder and is currently being held on a bond of million. Meanwhile, Still has been charged with hindering prosecution; she allegedly provided Scott with assistance after the incident, including new clothing and a train ticket. She remains detained with her bond raised to ,000.

Notably, neither Scott nor Still has any prior convictions or pending legal issues. The Meriden Police Department has reported that the investigation’s swift resolution was aided by the collaborative efforts of the New Haven State’s Attorney office, Milford Police Department, and Hartford Police Department. The community continues to grapple with the implications of this tragedy, reflecting on the personal and societal issues involved.
