31-year-old man fighting for life after being shot in the head outside a laundromat in Queens.

A man was fatally shot early Saturday morning outside a laundromat in Laurelton, Queens, marking a tragic incident in an area that many residents considered safe. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Dominick Lowery from St. Albans, was shot around 8:37 AM in front of the Wash & Fold Super Laundry at the Conduit Plaza shopping strip, situated at the intersection of Springfield Boulevard and 144th Avenue.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responders promptly transported Lowery to Jamaica Hospital, where he was placed on life support. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead a few hours later, as reported by local law enforcement officials.

As of now, the police have made no arrests, and there are no details available regarding a potential suspect in connection with the shooting. Community members expressed shock and concern about the violence in what they perceive as a generally tranquil neighborhood. A witness, Mohammad, who works at a nearby Edible Arrangements shop, recounted hearing a gunshot and observing an individual clad in green camouflage fleeing the scene shortly after the incident.

Another bystander, identified as Asim, shared his distressing experience of witnessing the aftermath of the shooting. Initially mistaking the sound for a passing airplane, he was unsettled to see the victim’s mother visibly distraught, crying and calling for her son. This incident has left many local residents uneasy, questioning the safety of their surroundings.

The laundromat temporarily closed its doors following the incident, resuming operations later in the day after law enforcement completed their investigation. Employees indicated that the shooting occurred outside in the parking lot and reportedly did not involve any customers at the laundromat.

Customers visiting the laundromat on Saturday expressed disbelief upon learning of the shooting. Many were unaware of the incident until it was reported on a television set located within the establishment. One patron recounted his surprise when he realized he was in the same laundromat that had been the site of the recent violence, highlighting the unsettling reality that such events can unfold anywhere, even in familiar settings.

The police continue their investigation into the shooting, seeking information that may lead to an apprehension of those responsible, while community members grapple with the implications of this act of violence on their neighborhood’s sense of security.
