Riverside County anti-trafficking operation recovers dozens of missing children.

In a significant enforcement initiative aimed at combating child trafficking, law enforcement agencies in Riverside County have successfully located 37 missing children within a week-long recovery operation. The children, aged between 14 and 17, were found during a collaborative effort that highlighted the pressing issue of child exploitation and trafficking.

The operation was orchestrated by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with the California Attorney General’s office, various police departments, federal law enforcement agencies, and community advocacy groups focused on victims’ rights. Authorities provided critical support services to the children, including medical assistance and advocacy resources, before facilitating their reunification with legal guardians.

Dubbed “Operation Safe Return,” this initiative targeted the most vulnerable missing children, specifically those who had been unaccounted for between one month and two years. The program sought to address cases entered into the National Crime Information Center database, which records individuals missing nationwide. According to the California Attorney General’s office, the operation’s methodology was particularly directed at children facing heightened risk of violence, substance abuse, exploitation, or domestic abuse.

During the course of this focused intervention, over 50 children were identified as missing. The recovered youths were located across various jurisdictions, including Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties, as well as areas extending into northern California, Arizona, and Nevada. This extensive geographical scope underscores the widespread nature of the crisis.

Law enforcement’s efforts also resulted in seven arrests, notably including one major federal arrest linked to child sex trafficking. The U.S. Marshals Service referred to this arrest as a critical aspect of their commitment to confronting child exploitation.
