The teacher, identified as Joseph Taylor McKeel, operated online under the alias “NYSubSlut.” He has been charged with possession of child pornography, with reports indicating that the thumb drive housed approximately 150 illicit images and videos. The case against McKeel stems from an investigation into a group suspected of distributing child pornography online, which led law enforcement to McKeel’s doorstep.

The inquiry was propelled when undercover operatives from the Scottish police attended a Zoom meeting in September, organized by an online group known as “Just guys and football.” During the meeting, the operative noted multiple illegal images being shared. Authorities subsequently traced the IP address associated with McKeel’s online alias back to his home.

With this data in hand, U.S. federal agents secured a warrant to conduct a search of McKeel’s residence. Upon executing the search on Wednesday, agents uncovered the thumb drive that contained the disturbing collection of materials.

McKeel is employed as a biology teacher at Independence High School, located on 10th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. This revelation has raised concerns within the community about the safety and well-being of students under his instruction.

Following his arrest, McKeel was arraigned in Brooklyn Federal Court, where he appeared before a judge. He is currently being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday.
