Employee files lawsuit claiming years of harassment and wrongful termination after maternity leave at MrBeast’s organization.
A former employee of MrBeast’s media production company, Beast Industries, has filed a lawsuit claiming wrongful termination and workplace harassment following her maternity leave. Lorrayne Mavromatis asserts that her role as social media manager was terminated less than three weeks after she returned to work, a decision she alleges was influenced by a culture of gender bias and sexual harassment within the company.
The lawsuit was submitted to federal court in North Carolina, accusing MrBeastYouTube, LLC and GameChanger 24/7, LLC of violating the Family and Medical Leave Act, which mandates job protection for eligible employees taking leave for family and medical reasons, including childbirth. In addition to the lawsuit, Mavromatis has lodged a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging discrimination, retaliation, and an unsafe work environment.
Mavromatis claims that she continued to work under duress immediately after her childbirth, including participating in meetings while still in the hospital. Her return to the workplace was marked by significant stress, culminating in her termination shortly thereafter. A representative from Beast Industries characterized the lawsuit as an opportunistic attempt for financial gain, describing Mavromatis’s termination as a results of organizational changes following a team reorganization.
The company presented evidence claiming that Mavromatis had acknowledged her understanding of workplace policies regarding family leave, further denying her allegations of harassment and suggesting that her position was eliminated through standard operational shifts. However, Mavromatis contends that a pattern of toxic treatment existed within the company, which she describes as having a misogynistic culture.
This case has cast a spotlight on Beast Industries and its internal culture under the leadership of Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, who has increasingly expanded his media empire through various ventures. While efforts have been made to reform the company following previous allegations of discrimination, the recent lawsuit has reignited concerns about the workplace environment and treatment of employees.
Mavromatis’s account surfaces amid ongoing scrutiny of the culture within high-profile media companies, particularly those driven by influential creators like Donaldson. The lawsuit aligns with broader discussions about workplace accountability and the need for systemic change regarding harassment and gender discrimination in corporate settings. Supported by the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund, Mavromatis’s case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by workers in demanding industries and the imperative for accountability within powerful organizations.
As MrBeast prepares to be honored at the TIME100 celebration, the allegations against his company may influence public perception and raise questions about the values and practices employed within the rapidly growing media brand. Beast Industries continues to expand, further emphasizing the importance of fostering a safe and equitable working environment for all employees.
