Man injured in shootout after shooting at officer with AR-15, according to Grand Prairie police.
A recent incident in Grand Prairie, Texas, ended with a police-involved shooting following a family disturbance reported over the weekend. The Grand Prairie Police Department detailed the events of the evening, which began when a woman contacted authorities around 8 p.m. to report that her former partner had arrived at her residence in the 3900 block of Dechman Drive and stolen her vehicle.
Upon the police locating the suspect, he fled the scene, initiating a brief vehicle pursuit. During the chase, the stolen vehicle became disabled, prompting the man to exit the car armed with an AR-15 style rifle. Authorities reported that he discharged his weapon, firing at an officer and also striking a police vehicle.
In response to the threat, the officer returned fire, striking the suspect, who then surrendered to police. Officers on the scene quickly administered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The man was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.
Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire. Subsequent investigations revealed that the 30-year-old suspect, a resident of Grimes, Texas, was wanted on multiple felony charges prior to this incident.
