The single-family home had been converted into multiple apartments, creating a cramped living situation. Sintokh Singh, a 55-year-old neighbor, alerted authorities after an overpowering odor began emanating from the unit occupied by the deceased, identified as the boy’s father. Singh noted that the smell had intensified over the previous two to three days, prompting him to take action.
Upon entering the apartment, rescuers were met with a shocking scene. Reports indicate that the son was found trapped with his father’s remains amidst mounds of trash and debris. Singh described the conditions, stating that when the door was forced open, the young man’s head appeared from the garbage, revealing the extent of neglect in which he had been living. Singh remarked on the overwhelming presence of refuse and discarded items, stating that the interior was filled with “nothing but garbage and bottles.”
The 25-year-old was immediately transported to South Brooklyn Health for medical evaluation, although further details about his condition remain unclear at this time. Neighbors had observed that the father and son lived alone, with the father providing full-time care for his son, who required constant supervision due to his disabilities.
