A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a Bronx shootout that injured a 5-year-old girl.

A significant incident unfolded in the Bronx on Wednesday, May 12, 2026, when a suspected gunfight occurred outside a deli, resulting in a five-year-old girl being grazed by a bullet. In connection with this violent altercation, a 15-year-old boy was arrested on Friday, facing serious charges including attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. The identity of the minor is being withheld in accordance with legal protections for juveniles.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) reported that the gunfire erupted around 5:40 p.m. near the Southern Blvd. Gourmet Deli and Juice Bar. According to law enforcement, the shooting involved three men who opened fire on a rival group while children and families were present. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, stating that approximately twelve individuals were observed in the area moments before the violence erupted.

A 42-year-old mother, who was with her daughter at the time of the shooting, recounted the harrowing experience. She had urged her daughter to proceed with caution moments before the gunfire began. Witness accounts indicated the initial confrontation began with one individual attempting to seize a large bag of marijuana from another, which quickly escalated into the barrage of bullets that transpired.

Inside the deli, employees were caught in the crossfire, with one worker, Hamood Ahmed, describing the fear felt as bullets penetrated the premises. Many sought immediate cover as the chaos unfolded, with one bullet reportedly striking the glass of the deli’s door.

Emergency responders rushed the injured girl to Harlem Hospital, where she was treated for a grazing wound behind her ear. Medical staff are currently monitoring her progress as she receives antibiotics and pain relief.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the NYPD has released images of two additional suspects involved in the incident. One suspect was described as wearing green headgear, a black sweater, and carrying a brown backpack, while another was noted to be dressed in a black sweater with a white emblem, grey jeans, and black sneakers. Investigators are exploring potential gang affiliations linked to the groups involved in the shootout, as the violence appears to stem from underlying territorial disputes.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the remaining suspects to reach out to Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, emphasizing that all tips will remain confidential. The occurrence has heightened concerns regarding public safety in the area, particularly given the involvement of minors in such violent acts.
