Lawsuit Filed Against Garden Grove Aerospace Company Over Alleged Negligence in Chemical Storage Practices

A couple from Garden Grove, California, has initiated a federal lawsuit against GKN Aerospace, accusing the aerospace manufacturer of negligence in relation to a recent incident involving a malfunctioning chemical tank. The lawsuit, filed on May 23 in U.S. District Court, centers around claims related to the negligent storage, containment, handling, monitoring, and release of methyl methacrylate and other hazardous chemical vapors.

The lawsuit is spearheaded by Filippo Marchino, founder and lead trial attorney of The X-Law Group, in collaboration with the Presidio Law Firm. The plaintiffs, Duane Page and Michelle Carlisle, evacuated their home due to safety concerns arising from the potential release of toxic chemicals, leaving them unable to access their belongings. Marchino highlighted the broader implications of the incident, stating that the couple’s property value could be adversely affected. He posed a hypothetical scenario involving a potential homebuyer choosing between their residence and an identical home situated outside the evacuation zone, suggesting that fear stemming from the evacuation could make their property less desirable.

Marchino, who holds dual degrees in aerospace engineering and has experience handling toxic materials, stressed the importance of robust safety measures for companies working with hazardous substances. He emphasized that there should be “catastrophic redundancy” in safety equipment to prevent such incidents, advocating for effective contingency plans to avert storage tank failures.

The chemical leak, which originated from a pressurized tank at GKN Aerospace, prompted large-scale evacuations across Stanton and portions of Garden Grove, Cypress, and Anaheim. Local authorities have worked diligently to manage the incident and ensure community safety.

While GKN Aerospace did not provide a response to the lawsuit by press time, the company issued a statement acknowledging the disruption caused by the event and expressing regret for the impact on the local community.

As investigations by fire officials are underway, the focus remains on understanding the cause of the leak and implementing necessary measures to safeguard public health and safety.
