Norwegian Football Association endorses ethics complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

In a bold move that underscores the intersection of sports and political ethics, the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has initiated a formal complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino. This action comes in response to Infantino’s controversial decision to present a “peace prize” to Donald Trump, drawing significant attention to FIFA’s political neutrality protocols. NFF President Lise Klaveness is championing this issue, believing it is crucial for the integrity of the sport.

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has submitted an official complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, citing a breach of political neutrality rules associated with FIFA. NFF President Lise Klaveness articulated the federation’s position at a press conference held prior to the national team’s departure for the World Cup, confirming that the complaint had been formally lodged. She noted that this action has ignited political tensions within the global governing body of football.

Klaveness previously voiced her concerns about the FIFA Peace Prize, urging the organization to abolish the award to maintain its political neutrality. The situation escalated when FIFA faced intense scrutiny for presenting the inaugural peace prize to US President Donald Trump during the World Cup draw in December 2026, raising questions about the appropriateness of the gesture.

The complaint, which was filed by the human rights organization FairSquare with FIFA’s ethics committee, challenges Infantino for his role in awarding a so-called “peace prize” to Trump. The NFF has requested an evaluation of whether Infantino’s actions violate FIFA’s statutes governing political neutrality. Klaveness stated, “We have sent it, and it is causing some political reactions. But it is sent, and that is checked off. We will follow up, push forward, request meetings, and build momentum on this as soon as the World Cup is over.”

According to Klaveness, discussions between NFF officials and FIFA representatives during a recent meeting in Budapest, which coincided with the Champions League final, acknowledged the controversy surrounding the letter. “There is no doubt that the letter is perceived as problematic when it comes from a member association,” she explained, adding that the meeting was constructive and highlighted the importance of Norway’s support for FairSquare’s initiatives.

The NFF submitted this complaint independently, opting not to solicit the support of other member associations to bolster its stance. Klaveness indicated, “We have received support from other federations, but we are sending this letter alone.” As of the report’s publication, ZezapTV has reached out to FIFA for comments regarding the allegations but has yet to receive a response.
