A private autopsy commissioned by the family of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old who tragically died earlier this month, has yielded little additional information regarding the circumstances of his passing. The independent autopsy, conducted by former Washington, D.C. chief medical examiner Dr. Roger Mitchell, revealed red discoloration on the tissue at the back of Wells’ head. However, the origins of this discoloration are still unclear. Complicating the examination, Wells’ body had decomposed by the time it was analyzed, which hindered forensic pathologists from identifying crucial evidence. Importantly, this autopsy was undertaken after the state had conducted its own investigation, resulting in the absence of many internal organs, including the throat and larynx.

Wells was reported missing during a Fourth of July boating outing with friends to Horn Island, situated approximately ten miles south of the Mississippi mainland. His body was located in the water on July 6, following extensive search efforts involving the U.S. Coast Guard, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, and the National Park Service.

In the wake of these developments, Christine Wonsley, Wells’ mother, expressed her profound grief at the press conference, revealing that the loss of her son has been an unimaginable hardship.
