Chief Christopher Cook will depart from the White Settlement Police Department on August 31 to assume an executive leadership role with the BNSF Railway Police Department, according to an announcement from the city. This transition marks a significant career move for Cook, who has been instrumental in leading the police department since April 2022.

The BNSF Railway Police Department is a private railroad law enforcement agency. Its special agents possess law enforcement authority granted by the state, as well as federal interstate jurisdiction. Their responsibilities extend across approximately 32,500 miles of track, encompassing 28 states. The department focuses on investigating crimes that occur on railroad property, addressing issues such as trespassing and cargo theft, and collaborating with various law enforcement agencies to enhance railway security.

In his new role, Cook will serve as a special agent in charge and director of special investigations and training for the BNSF Railway Police. His extensive law enforcement career spans over 30 years, during which he held significant positions, including retiring as deputy police chief from the Arlington Police Department before taking the helm at White Settlement.

Born and raised in White Settlement, Cook expressed his commitment to remain in the community even after transitioning to his new position. He emphasized his deep appreciation for having served as chief of police and his desire to continue engaging with the local community.

City Manager Jeffrey J. James noted that Cook was brought on board to enhance community engagement, stabilize the workforce within the department, and elevate its profile throughout North Texas. According to James, Cook has exceeded expectations across these objectives. Mayor Faron Young commended Cook for bringing much-needed stability and innovation to the department, particularly during a period of uncertainty when he first took over leadership responsibilities.

As Cook prepares for his departure, the city is set to announce plans for a retirement ceremony. Additionally, city officials will begin the process of identifying both interim and permanent leadership to ensure a smooth transition within the police department.

This change in leadership reflects ongoing efforts to adapt to the evolving needs of the community while maintaining effective law enforcement services.
