Trump praises successful discussion with Turkey’s Erdogan and announces upcoming visits.

United States President Donald Trump recently described a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as “very good and productive,” highlighting a mutual interest in addressing pressing global conflicts, including the ongoing war in Ukraine and humanitarian challenges in Gaza.

During the discussion on Monday, Trump conveyed Erdogan’s invitation for him to visit Turkiye, a gesture reciprocated with an invitation for Erdogan to travel to Washington, D.C. However, specific dates for these visits have not yet been confirmed. The Turkish presidency issued a statement which reiterated Erdogan’s invitation to Trump, signaling strong bilateral relations.

In his remarks, Trump emphasized the desire for cooperation between the United States and Turkiye to find a resolution to the war in Ukraine, characterizing their relationship as “excellent.” He stated their joint efforts must focus on swiftly ending what he termed the “ridiculous but deadly” conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The call reflects Turkiye’s unique position as a NATO member that has successfully navigated its diplomatic relations with both neighboring countries involved in the war since the onset of the Russian invasion.

In their conversation, Erdogan expressed appreciation for Trump’s approach toward peace negotiations, particularly the importance of engaging Iran and facilitating dialogue to resolve the situation in Ukraine. Erdogan also underscored the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing that the humanitarian crisis there has escalated to alarming levels. He called for the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict.

Additionally, Erdogan reaffirmed Turkiye’s commitment to maintaining its sovereignty and territorial integrity in Syria, advocating for U.S. efforts aimed at easing sanctions on Syria to foster stability in the region. The Turkish president stressed that collaboration between the two nations has the potential to reinforce peace and security across the Middle East.

Looking ahead, Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates next week, further strengthening ties with key partners in the region. As international powers engage in dialogues that prioritize humanitarian principles and diplomatic resolutions, the collaborative efforts between the U.S. and Turkiye may serve as a pivotal element in addressing global security challenges.
