Seventeen-year-old Brooklyn boy who was shot in the head has died from his injuries one week later.
A 17-year-old boy from Coney Island, identified as Tamari Carmona, succumbed to injuries sustained from a gunshot wound to the head. This unfortunate incident occurred in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn during the early hours of April 29, and his death was confirmed by the police on Tuesday.
Carmona was at the Flatbush Gardens apartment complex located on Brooklyn Avenue near Foster Avenue when he encountered three individuals dressed in black shortly after 12:30 a.m. An altercation ensued, during which one of the assailants brandished a firearm and opened fire, striking Carmona in the head. Following the shooting, all three suspects fled the scene towards New York Avenue.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) promptly transported Carmona to Kings County Hospital Center, where he ultimately passed away from his injuries on Thursday. This incident marks another tragic episode in a series of violent events plaguing the community, raising concerns about safety and crime rates in the area.
As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with the shooting, and the motivation behind the attack remains unclear. Investigators have been actively working on the case and reportedly recovered a revolver at the scene, along with seven 9mm shell casings and one .38-caliber bullet, indicating the use of multiple firearms during the incident.
Carmona’s death has drawn attention within the community, especially as it occurred just two days after another shooting incident in the same neighborhood. Eighteen-year-old Javon Johnnie was fatally shot in the chest on April 27 near West 36th Street and Surf Avenue. Johnnie was also transported to a nearby hospital, NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, but efforts to save him were unsuccessful. The police have not ruled out the possibility of a connection between the two violent events, but no definitive link has been established at this time.
The increasing rate of gun violence, particularly among young individuals in urban environments, continues to evoke strong emotions and highlight the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to address safety concerns within these communities. As investigations into these incidents proceed, local authorities are under pressure to enhance public safety and ensure justice for victims and their families.
