Delco Gives raises funds for organizations affected by the closure of Crozer Health and other community needs this year.
In light of the recent financial challenges faced by Crozer Health, the Foundation for Delaware County has shifted its focus from supporting the struggling health system to promoting community-driven philanthropy. After contributing million in an attempt to stabilize the ailing organization, the foundation is now calling on the public to contribute to its latest initiative, the Delco Gives fundraising campaign. This campaign aims to benefit over 300 local nonprofit organizations in Delaware County.
Scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday, the Delco Gives campaign aspires to raise million, which will subsequently be allocated to various nonprofits in the area. Interested donors can select specific organizations to support by visiting the campaign’s website at www.delcogives.org.
The previous year’s Delco Gives event surpassed expectations, garnering participation from 9,600 donors who collectively raised more than .7 million for 281 nonprofits. This robust response reflects a strong community commitment to local causes, as society contends with growing economic uncertainties.
Frances M. Sheehan, the president of the foundation, emphasized the importance of this fundraising effort as an opportunity for community members to divert their attention from broader, often distressing news narratives to support essential local organizations in need of both financial assistance and greater visibility.
Notably, some of the participating nonprofits this year include Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby and Riddle Hospital in Media. Both institutions anticipate a significant increase in patients as a direct result of recent closures at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital. The impact of these closures has been particularly pronounced on Riddle Hospital, which has reported a 40% increase in emergency department volumes.
Additionally, Main Line Health has reported a doubling of ambulance volumes from Chester since the closures. The health system’s surge capacity is reportedly at full capacity across all four of its acute care hospitals, which are located in Wynnewood, Bryn Mawr, and Paoli.
As the community mobilizes for the upcoming Delco Gives event, the Foundation for Delaware County invites everyone to join in solidarity with nonprofit organizations that are crucial to the well-being and support of the local populace during these challenging times. Media News Source.
