Ram recalls over 265,000 vehicles due to a steering defect.

Stellantis NV, the manufacturer of Ram cargo vans, has announced a significant recall affecting more than 265,000 ProMaster vans produced between 2022 and 2026. The recall stems from a defect in the vehicles’ electric power steering systems, which could potentially lead to a critical loss of power steering assist. This situation raises serious safety concerns, as damaged steering systems can significantly increase the likelihood of accidents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified that water can infiltrate the steering systems of these vans, causing damage to the electrical wiring. Such corrosion can impair the functionality of the steering assist, which is vital for safe vehicle operation. Stellantis is taking this issue seriously, having noted at least one non-injury incident linked to this defect, according to a company representative.

To address the problem, Stellantis has issued a directive for owners of the affected vehicles to have their wiring harnesses inspected and replaced if necessary. The company has assured customers that any repairs required will be covered entirely by Stellantis. The automaker plans to notify affected customers when they can schedule their service appointments.

In addition to the large number of vehicles in the United States, approximately 20,000 ProMaster vans in Canada and more than 3,000 in Mexico are also included in the recall. This expanded action reflects the company’s commitment to safety and the widespread nature of the issue across North America.

The NHTSA initiated an investigation into the Ram cargo vans in September 2025, prompted by consumer complaints regarding malfunctions in the steering system. As this situation develops, Stellantis encourages customers with concerns or inquiries to contact their support line at 1-800-853-1403 for further assistance.

This recall serves as a significant reminder of the importance of vehicle safety standards and the vigilance required from both manufacturers and consumers to ensure road safety. As the automotive industry continues to innovate, ensuring the reliability of key components like steering remains paramount in protecting drivers and passengers alike. Media News Source urges ProMaster owners to act promptly in addressing this recall for their own safety as well as that of others on the road.
