The case came to light when Meta, the parent company of Instagram, alerted the FBI about concerning communications between the two individuals—one a student at Corona High School and the other at Norco High School. Corona police officials, including Lieutenant Robert Montanez, disclosed that the students had devised detailed plans for an attack, including campus maps, a list of targets, and strategies for acquiring weapons.

While specific details regarding the students’ motivations remain unclear, Montanez suggested that a motive of revenge seems plausible based on the investigation’s findings.
