Montgomery County woman found dead in the Schuylkill River after fatally shooting her husband and attempting to shoot her son, officials confirm.
Tonya Dupree, a 57-year-old woman from Upper Merion Township, was found deceased in the Schuylkill River on Saturday morning, following a series of tragic events that reportedly involved an attempted murder of her son and the subsequent death of her husband, Robert Dupree. The initial confrontation occurred around 9:30 a.m. when police responded to an emergency call outside a FedEx warehouse in Upper Dublin. The caller, identified as Dupree’s son, reported that his mother had approached him in her vehicle and brandished a firearm, threatening him from inside the car.
According to a joint statement issued by Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and the police chiefs from Upper Dublin and Upper Merion, a physical altercation ensued, allowing the son to disarm his mother. Following the struggle, Dupree fled the scene, leading to concerns for her welfare and prompting police to conduct a welfare check at the family’s residence in King of Prussia by 10:15 a.m.
