The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office has declared that a devastating house fire that occurred in Washington Township early Sunday morning is being investigated as a murder-suicide. This determination follows widespread speculation throughout the local community after the incident unfolded on Mother’s Day.

The fire was reported at approximately 2:03 a.m. and escalated rapidly, prompting neighbors to hear what was described as an explosion. When the Washington Township Fire Department arrived, the house on Tranquillity Court was engulfed in flames, causing damage to the exteriors of adjacent homes due to the intense heat.

Once the fire was extinguished, investigators entered the ranch-style residence, where they discovered the body of a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The county Medical Examiner later classified her death as a homicide. Authorities ruled his death a suicide as a result of the fire.
