Michigan man arrested for plotting ISIS attack on military base.
A Michigan man has been arrested and charged in connection with a planned mass shooting at a military facility, allegedly acting on behalf of the ISIS terrorist organization. The individual, Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, is a former member of the Michigan Army National Guard, having been discharged from service in December 2022.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Said was apprehended on Tuesday after he drove to a location near the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command facility, located at the Detroit Arsenal. Authorities report that he had engaged in extensive discussions with undercover FBI agents about executing the attack, which he was reportedly prepared to carry out last month.
Said is accused of taking several preparatory steps to facilitate the attack. These actions included supplying armor-piercing ammunition, conducting surveillance of the military base using a drone, providing weapons training, and offering tactical instructions on how to infiltrate the facility and identify specific targets.
Law enforcement officials arrested Said as he attempted to launch the drone near the base’s vicinity. He now faces serious charges including attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and distributing information related to a destructive device. If convicted of these charges, Said could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
Brigadier General Rhett R. Cox, the commanding officer of Army Counterintelligence Command, emphasized the importance of counterintelligence efforts in the aftermath of this incident.
