Gunmen shoot over 40 rounds at man in SUV near hotel on Presidential Blvd.
In West Philadelphia, a daylight shooting incident took place on Wednesday evening outside the Courtyard Marriott located on Presidential Boulevard. According to police reports, at least two gunmen discharged approximately 40 rounds at a GMC Yukon SUV, which was occupied by a 26-year-old driver. Miraculously, the driver managed to escape with only a graze wound to his abdomen.
The shooting occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the Wynnefield Heights neighborhood, just across the line from Montgomery County. The victim reported that he had just picked up a food order from a nearby TGI Fridays restaurant when he was confronted by the armed assailants. Authorities indicate that the assailants attempted to rob him before opening fire as he attempted to flee the scene.
Following the barrage of bullets, the driver fled onto the I-76 on-ramp but subsequently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the rear of a Mercedes-Benz. Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash, where the driver of the Yukon was transported to Lankenau Medical Center for treatment. He was treated for his injuries and later released. The police have not provided any details regarding potential injuries to the occupants of the Mercedes.
Investigators have since gathered substantial evidence from the incident. Over 40 shell casings were recovered from the scene, with reports indicating the discovery of at least two different calibers used in the shooting. Despite their efforts, law enforcement officials have not yet made any arrests and have not disclosed a motive for the attack. The ongoing investigation aims to locate the assailants involved in this brazen act of violence.
As the case remains active, police urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward. The residents of Wynnefield Heights and surrounding communities are left to grapple with the unsettling reality of gun violence occurring in broad daylight, prompting concerns regarding safety and security in urban areas. Authorities continue their search for the perpetrators as the investigation unfolds.
