Eight companies from the Philadelphia area have been included in this year’s Fortune 500 list.
Eight companies from the Philadelphia metropolitan area have secured their positions in the latest Fortune 500 list, which ranks the largest U.S. companies by revenue. This annual list, established by Fortune magazine, remains a crucial indicator of corporate performance across various industries.
Walmart continues to dominate the rankings for the 13th consecutive year, boasting an impressive revenue of approximately 1 billion for the fiscal year 2024. Following Walmart are Amazon, UnitedHealth Group, Apple, and CVS Health, which round out the top five. These corporations underscore the significant influence of retail and healthcare sectors within the U.S. economy.
The Philadelphia area’s companies are ranked as follows:
1. Cencora – This Conshohocken-based pharmaceutical company, formerly known as AmerisourceBergen, stands at number 10 with revenues near 4 billion.
2. Comcast – As the Philadelphia-rooted telecommunications giant, Comcast holds the 35th position with about 3.7 billion in revenue.
3. Lincoln National Corporation – Based in Radnor, this insurance and investment management firm is ranked 228th, reporting revenues of approximately .4 billion.
4. Aramark – This provider of food and facilities management services, located in Philadelphia, ranks 239th with revenues around .4 billion.

Other significant entries from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware include Johnson & Johnson at 48th with .8 billion, PNC Bank at 131st with .4 billion, and DuPont at 339th with .4 billion.
Notably, the Philadelphia area saw declines with Rite Aid falling off the list after filing for bankruptcy and announcing plans to close its locations. Similarly, UGI, a utility company based in King of Prussia, also exited the top 500 rankings.
Despite a general sense of consumer pessimism regarding financial conditions, the Fortune 500 companies collectively achieved record revenues of .9 trillion in 2024, reflecting a 6% annual increase and contributing significantly to U.S. GDP. These companies employ approximately 31 million individuals worldwide, emphasizing their critical role in the global economy.
