Chester County man receives three life sentences for the murders of his girlfriend and their unborn child.

In a significant legal development earlier this week, a Chester County court sentenced Mamadou Kallie to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for the murders of two young women and his unborn child. The sentencing marks the culmination of a tragic case that reflects the severe consequences of domestic violence and the grave loss endured by the victims’ families.

Kimberly Ortiz-Zayas, who was 21 and several months pregnant at the time of her death, was on the brink of celebrating the birth of her son, Eliel. Family members recalled her excitement in the months leading up to his expected arrival in May 2022, with preparations underway for a baby shower. In contrast, 20-year-old Tiara Rodriguez-Diaz was a dedicated mother to her son, Legend, cherishing every moment of their time together.

Kallie, 26, was found guilty of first-degree murder in March, having shot both women during an incident in May 2022. Testimonies revealed a lengthy history of abuse that Kallie had subjected both victims to throughout their respective relationships. In a distressing turn of events, on the day of the murders, Rodriguez-Diaz and Ortiz-Zayas had met to discuss their shared experiences of Kallie’s abuse, ultimately deciding to leave him for good.

In a calculated act of violence, Kallie pursued the women as they were riding in Rodriguez-Diaz’s car. He shot Rodriguez-Diaz at close range while she sat in the vehicle, and as Ortiz-Zayas attempted to flee and pleaded for her life, he shot her as well. The shocking nature of these crimes has left a lasting impact on both families.

During the sentencing, Judge Analisa Sondergaard emphasized Kallie’s lack of remorse and the intentional nature of his actions. First Assistant District Attorney Erin O’Brien highlighted how Kallie’s brutal acts not only took the lives of two women but also fractured two families, disrupting multiple generations.

Kallie’s defense during the trial consisted of a convoluted narrative in which he claimed he was not responsible for the murders as an unnamed assailant had allegedly threatened the victims. Prosecutors dismissed his account as implausible, outlining the history of abuse that culminated in the tragic events.

Though Kallie is now incarcerated, his actions continue to reverberate through the lives of the victims’ families. O’Brien noted that from jail, Kallie had attempted to further manipulate the situation by reaching out to Rodriguez-Diaz’s mother, asserting a desire to be involved in his son’s life without acknowledging the loss he had caused.

Ultimately, the court’s decision reflects a broader acknowledgment of the pervasive issue of domestic violence and the urgent need for protective measures for victims and their families across society.
