Trump warns weekend military parade protestors will encounter significant police presence.

President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to potential protesters ahead of a much-anticipated military parade scheduled for this Saturday in Washington, D.C. The parade, which marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, coincidentally falls on Trump’s 79th birthday. During a recent White House press briefing, Trump urged demonstrators to stay away, stating they would be met with “very big force” should they attempt to disrupt the event.

The parade’s planning comes amidst heated discussions surrounding immigration policy, as Trump continues to face backlash for his administration’s recent crackdown on immigration protests in Los Angeles. Despite acknowledging the potential for unrest, Trump claimed to have no credible intelligence indicating plans that would disrupt the festivities associated with the Army’s milestone celebration. He attributed any potential dissent to individuals who he perceives as adversaries of the United States.

Military officials are anticipating substantial attendance, estimating that around 200,000 people will gather for the parade. Matt McCool from the Secret Service’s Washington Field office emphasized their preparedness for an enormous turnout, indicating significant measures will be in place to maintain security.

In preparation for the event, authorities will implement extensive security measures, which include erecting over 18 miles of anti-scale fencing, installing 175 metal detectors along the parade route, and deploying multiple drones for aerial surveillance. Additionally, Washington D.C.’s Reagan National Airport is expected to close during the festivities, reflecting the heightened security surrounding this National Special Security Event, a classification also applied to presidential inaugurations and state funerals.

The military parade has been in the planning stages for months, intended to celebrate the Army’s legacy. However, Trump’s announcement to transform it into a grand military spectacle—including the display of 60-ton M1 Abrams battle tanks and Paladin artillery—has fueled criticisms. Opponents have decried the event as an extravagant display of personal loyalty to the president, asserting that it serves to bolster his image as a formidable leader.

Amid rising tensions, organized protests are anticipated, including a significant march toward the White House. As civil disobedience movements gain momentum nationwide, especially regarding immigration issues, officials maintain a vigilant stance and have stated they are ready to respond appropriately to any disturbances that may arise on Saturday. McCool reassured the public of a comprehensive plan in place to address potential protests, reflecting a commitment to uphold public safety during this significant event.
