This week in Philadelphia’s vibrant music scene promises a diverse array of performances that will engage fans across multiple genres. Notably, renowned musician Ringo Starr will return to the Mann Center on Sunday, September 24, after an unanticipated cancellation due to illness last year. The 84-year-old former Beatle will perform alongside members of iconic bands such as Toto, Men at Work, and Average White Band, ensuring a nostalgic yet fresh take on Beatles classics and solo hits.

The weekend’s events kick off on Thursday, September 21, with the North Mississippi All-Stars gracing the stage at Ardmore Music Hall. The band, led by the Dickinson brothers, is celebrating the release of their latest album, Still Shakin’, marking 25 years since their debut. Opening the show will be rising talent Jontavious Willis, known for his authentic country blues sound.

Meanwhile, the historic Sun Ra Arkestra, under the leadership of the 101-year-old saxophonist Marshall Allen, will perform at the Music Hall at World Cafe Live on Thursday. Known for its innovative sound, the Arkestra is expected to provide an engaging experience for jazz enthusiasts.

Friday offers a variety of musical experiences, starting with Mo Lowda & the Humble, who will perform at the Free at Noon concert series at World Cafe Live. Following that, the Fillmore will host the Maryland alt-R&B artist Gallant as well as a high-energy ska-punk event featuring Less Than Jake, Fishbone, and others.

On Saturday, Gallagher, noted for his position as a guitar virtuoso, will perform at the Music Box at the Borgata, while a concert featuring songwriter-producer David Foster and trumpeter Chris Botti is scheduled for Caesars. Simultaneously, the Philadelphia-based band Chestnut Grove with its new lineup will take the stage at Ardmore Music Hall.

In a significant weekend event, Queens of the Stone Age, fronted by Josh Homme, will present their “The End Is Nero” tour at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City on Friday. The “Happy Together” tour, featuring classic artists like The Turtles and Cowsills, is also set for the same night at Ovation Hall.
