The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, traveling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick with 242 individuals on board, faced catastrophic failure shortly after takeoff on Thursday. The aircraft descended rapidly, colliding with a medical college hostel in Gujarat, leading to significant damage to the building as well.

In a promising development amidst the devastation, one of the aircraft’s black boxes has been located, adding crucial information toward understanding the sequence of events leading up to this disaster. Efforts on the ground are focused not only on the recovery of debris but also on locating missing individuals. An official from the National Disaster Response Force announced the deployment of seven teams to aid in the recovery efforts, which, as of now, have successfully retrieved 81 bodies from the site.

Modi expressed his deep sorrow towards the disaster, acknowledging the severity of the situation in a statement posted on social media, labelin g the impact as “saddening.” Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu confirmed the initiation of an exhaustive investigation into the crash, led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau.

As part of the recovery efforts, medical personnel are conducting DNA testing to identify the victims of the accident, according to Akshay Dongardiv, president of the Federation of All India Medical Association. Families of the deceased have been gathering at Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where they are receiving support during this difficult time.

Reports from witnesses depict a chaotic scene, with many residents describing a massive explosion followed by plumes of dark smoke rising from the crash site. CCTV footage captured the moment of impact, revealing the extensive damage caused not only to the aircraft but also to the surrounding area, with debris scattered across rooftops.
